Practice letters/sounds/words/numbers nightly!!
We are settling back into our routines and learning groups again—just in time for snow!!
Letters/Phonics: Your child should now be able to recognize, print, and tell you the sound for the following letters: Ll, Mm, Oo, Tt, Gg, Aa, Hh, Ss, Pp, Cc, Ii, Bb, Nn, Dd, Kk, Ff, and Rr. Please work on all of these at home!! We have been practicing printing Aa-Zz. Continue to practice and review at home-especially if we miss for snow (it is so easy to fall behind). Next week we will practice consonant blends at the beginning of words and continue to practice sounding out and blending words.
Reading: Your child should be able to read these words to you as part of your homework each night: I am the little to a have is we my like he for me she with look see they of you do are that. New words: color words. Practice: sounding out small one syllable words (hat, cat, pig, sit, pot, mop), counting the number of syllables in a word, counting the number of words in a sentence, and recognizing period, question mark, and exclamation mark. We have also been working on beginning a sentence with a capital letter.
Math: We continue to practice counting and number recognition daily. Our goal for the end of the year is to count to 100 and recognize/print to at least 25. I hope everyone still has the laminated sheet of numbers sent home at the beginning of the year. It is great to practice recognition and counting. We are continuing to practice addition, but have also started subtraction this week using objects, drawings, and fingers—please practice BOTH at home!!
In folders: new sight words (all 11 color words), a list of words to keep and practice reading, Math homework, and books to read.
Please sign and return grade cards and skills test if you have not already!! Remember, they were tested before Christmas break and I have already seen some improvements. Keep working at home so you will see progress too!!
Thanks for all you do!! Happy weekend to all!!
No school Monday, January 21 due to Martin Luther King day!! Be on the lookout for SNOW!!
