Practice letters/sounds/words/numbers nightly!!
Letters/Phonics: Your child should now be able to recognize, print, and tell you the sound for the following letters: Ll, Mm, Oo, Tt, Gg, Aa, Hh, Ss, Pp, Cc, Ii, Bb, Nn, Dd, Kk, Ff, Rr, Uu, and Ee. Please work on all of these at home!! We have also been practicing printing Aa-Zz. Continue to practice and review at home a few minutes each night—we are moving fast and it is easy to fall behind. Next week we will study Jj, Ww, and Zz.
Reading: Your child should be able to read these words to you as part of your homework each night: I am the little to a have is we my like he for me she with look see they of you do are that red blue green yellow orange purple pink black brown white gray zero one two three four five six seven eight nine ten go here from. Practice: sounding out small one syllable words (hat, cat, pig, sit, pot, mop), counting the number of syllables in a word, counting the number of words in a sentence, and blending sounds together to make words. We have been working on beginning sentences with a capital letter and ending them with the correct mark (. ? !).
Math: We continue to practice counting and number recognition daily. Our goal for the end of the year is to count to 100 and recognize/print to at least 25. I hope everyone still has the laminated sheet of numbers sent home at the beginning of the year. It is great to practice number recognition and counting. (If you need another one, please let me know.) We are continuing to practice addition, but have also started subtraction using objects, drawings, and fingers—please practice BOTH at home!!
In folders: Math subtraction homework (front and back of sheet), word list to practice reading, page to practice letters/sounds, two books to read, and mid nine weeks progress report to sign and return!!
Remember to return field trip permission slip by Feb. 19 along with the money to go.
